Botox or Fillers? Which Is Better for Facial Rejuvenation?

Botox or Fillers

Botox or Fillers? This is a very common question, and today I’m going to clarify everything you need to know to decide which treatment is right for you — and whether it’s even necessary in your case. Let’s go!

Botox or Fillers: When Is Each Treatment Recommended?

Basically, when it comes to expression lines in the upper third of the face, from the eye area upward, we recommend botulinum toxin (Botox). When we’re talking about areas below the eyes, that’s where fillers come in.

Botulinum toxin is ideal for patients with strong muscle activity that causes creases and deep expression lines, which can be quite bothersome.

Fillers, on the other hand, have a completely different function. They are recommended for patients with facial volume loss.

Fillers and MD Codes

It’s important to differentiate between standard filler application and the MD Codes technique, which aims to provide facial support using hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid can be used to fill in areas that have lost volume — such as the temples or cheekbones. But it can also be used for patients who don’t want to add volume, but rather wish to lift and support the face.

It’s very common — especially among women — to look in the mirror and say, “Doctor, I’d love to pull my face upward like this. Is that possible?”

Yes, it is. The MD Codes technique was created specifically for that purpose. Developed by Dr. Mauricio de Maio, a world-renowned Brazilian plastic surgeon, the technique involves injecting hyaluronic acid into specific lifting points of the face to create a supportive effect.

The product is usually injected between the bone and muscle, creating a lifting effect without increasing facial volume. This is a technique we’ve used for over 15 years, and patients love the results.

Botox

Botox can also be applied to other areas, such as the neck and jawline. Fillers are mainly used to restore lost volume, while MD Codes are great for facial support without volume enhancement.

Botox or Fillers: Which Is Better?

Botox or Fillers

When it comes to facial rejuvenation, two options are among the most requested in dermatology clinics: Botox and dermal fillers. But which one is better for rejuvenating your skin?

The answer depends on your goals.

Botox (botulinum toxin) works by relaxing muscles that cause expression lines — such as forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. It’s ideal for softening fine lines and preventing them from deepening over time.

Dermal fillers, usually made with hyaluronic acid, serve a different purpose: they restore lost volume in areas like the cheekbones, nasolabial folds, and lips. They also help to improve facial contours and provide a lifting effect.

So, the best treatment depends on the type of wrinkle and the area being treated. In many cases, the combination of both techniques produces the most natural and effective results.
