I’m Dr. Ronaldo Szerman, and today we’re going to talk about facial disharmony. After all, is it possible to reverse facial harmonization? And is it really worth undergoing facial disharmony treatments?

This is an extremely important topic and one that raises many questions, as facial disharmony is becoming increasingly common and concerning.
Facial disharmony affects a significant portion of the population, with studies showing that nearly 30% of adults report dissatisfaction with their facial balance, often due to issues such as jaw asymmetry, chin projection, or disproportionate facial thirds.
Because of this, interest in corrective treatments—ranging from orthodontics to facial harmonization and surgical interventions—has increased steadily over the past decade. Understanding what causes facial disharmony and the effectiveness of available treatments is essential for deciding whether pursuing aesthetic or functional correction is truly worth it.
Why Has Facial Disharmony Become a Topic in Clinics?

The term “facial disharmony” emerged from the procedure of facial harmonization, which is basically done using fillers and is intended to help people maintain the shape and volume of their face in a harmonious way.
However, we have increasingly seen procedures being done excessively, completely altering the patient’s facial features and causing disharmony.
The real intention of these procedures is to restore and improve facial support and lost volume, bringing naturalness and balance to the patient’s appearance. But what we are seeing is the overuse of fillers, drastically changing the facial shape and creating a deformed appearance.
We must remember that every procedure carries inherent risks. When an excessive amount of injectable product is used, the risk associated with the procedure also increases significantly.
Unfortunately, we are receiving patients who have undergone treatments like Botox, fillers, lasers, and other procedures with non-medical professionals, often resulting in poor outcomes and complications. This sometimes leads them to consider reversing the facial harmonization.
I want to emphasize again that every procedure has risks. Additionally, the efficiency, quality, and proper execution of these procedures are essential for achieving good results.
When the Result Doesn’t Turn Out as Expected
I’ve heard several cases in the clinic that are concerning, which is why I decided to address this topic.
One patient asked me about an evaluation he had at another clinic, where the professional was not medically trained.
The patient, around 40 years old, with good facial volume and support, told me he was recommended 20 syringes of filler—the same amount a friend of his had received.
Hearing this shocked me, as in our clinic we usually use 1 to 5 syringes on average, depending on individual needs. Obviously, I disagreed with the recommendation given.
On another occasion, I received two patients for a rejuvenation evaluation, and they immediately said they wouldn’t get fillers because it would deform their skin, completely changing their natural appearance.
This situation reflects the improper and commercialized use of the technique. Patients who are candidates for treatment are getting a distorted view of the procedure. I explained that when the procedure is done correctly, with the right products and the appropriate amount, the results are excellent and natural.
I recommend that people seek a doctor experienced in these procedures to receive a proper evaluation and guidance.
Facial Aging – Why Does It Happen?
As we age, the structures and tissues in our body, including the face, naturally deteriorate, affecting the quality and form of the skin.
For example, facial skin loses collagen and hydration, becoming flaccid and dull, while losing vitality and developing spots and vascular lesions. Below the skin, structural loss also occurs, leading to decreased volume and support.
This results in wrinkles and folds, making the face appear as if it is “sagging.”
Effective Treatments for Facial Rejuvenation

Several treatments are highly effective in improving skin health, beauty, and harmony.
These treatments can be combined, as each targets specific issues. For example:
- CO2 laser: rejuvenates overall skin, improving sagging, fine lines, wrinkles, spots, and scars.
- Botox: combats wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes.
- Fillers: restore facial volume and support, improving wrinkles, folds, and facial contours.
It is crucial for patients to have a consultation with a doctor to evaluate their case individually, so the safest and most effective procedures can be selected for their specific needs.
