Overview of Fractional CO2 Laser for Skin Treatment

For more than three decades, one procedure has been regarded as the gold standard by the dermatological community.

The CO2 laser is a type of treatment that can effectively reduce the visibility of various skin imperfections such as acne scars, spots, melasma, sunspots, deep wrinkles, and sagging skin.

Dr. Szerman Explains

The CO2 laser is an exceptional treatment for skin rejuvenation, as well as for the treatment of acne scars and spots. Its fractionated and pulsed approach allows for unparalleled control over the heat generated in the skin, making it the safest and most effective option available.
At Clínica de Pele, we use the third generation Deka laser, and our qualified laser doctors perform the procedure. All lasers used at our clinic are approved by ANVISA and the FDA.
The Fractional and Pulsed CO2 Laser treatment is very versatile and efficient. It utilizes heat to boost collagen production instead of traditional methods that burn the skin. The treatment can effectively address a wide range of skin issues while simultaneously promoting facial rejuvenation, all without causing any damage to the skin.
Upon application, the skin will receive the utmost care, providing greater safety and comfort for the patient. This will result in a quick and smooth recovery, ultimately ensuring the greatest satisfaction.

What are the benefits?

The Fractional CO2 Laser offers several advantages for skin resurfacing treatment.

Not only is it a less invasive procedure, but it can also be used in sensitive areas such as the eyelids and around the mouth. Additionally, the Fractional CO2 Laser is safe for use in individuals with darker skin due to its longer wavelength, which distinguishes it from other lasers available on the market.

Aftercare for Fractional CO2 Laser

After the Fractional CO2 Laser procedure, the patient’s skin will need a recovery period of approximately 4 to 7 days. Most patients recover within 5 days. To ensure a smooth recovery, it is crucial to be well-informed about CO2 Laser aftercare.

The length of recovery time will vary depending on the level of treatment received (mild or deep). To achieve the best results, strictly adhere to the dermatologist’s recommendations.

The Fractional CO2 Laser is a facial rejuvenation device. It works by boosting collagen production and causing the skin to tighten.

This laser has many applications, but the most common uses include treating acne scars, melasma, skin blemishes, expression lines, and stretch marks (with great success). It has been proven to be effective in treating a variety of dermatological complaints.

The Fractional CO2 Laser procedure is used for:

  • Smoothing out wrinkles and expression lines on the skin.
  • Treat melasma and dark spots on the face.
  • Firm sagging skin and address premature aging.
  • Reduce the appearance of acne scars on the face.
  • Body treatments, such as stretch marks, among other things.

The CO2 Laser is a great option for facial rejuvenation. It effectively treats wrinkles, expression lines, and other signs of aging. It can also improve the appearance of spots, melasma, and acne scars, leaving the skin looking smoother and more even. This method is safe and less invasive for the patient.

The Deka Laser enables a quick recovery. A facial treatment usually takes about 5 days to recover from, whereas body treatments can take anywhere from 15 to 20 days for the CO2 laser. The skin may experience a light flaking after the procedure, but it is less severe compared to other Fractional Lasers.

Here are some important things to do after having a CO2 laser treatment:

  • Avoid going out in the sun because your skin will be more sensitive than usual.
  • Use moisturizing creams on the treated area and follow the instructions carefully to get the best results.
  • Put on sunscreen whenever you need to, as part of your daily skin care routine. Wait until your skin has healed from the laser treatment (usually 1 week to 10 days).
  • Avoid using any cosmetics on your skin, as this may cause pigmentation issues and jeopardize your treatment.

It is normal for your skin to develop a thin crust and become slightly red and swollen after a laser session. This is a common reaction, and one of the Clinic’s recommendations after a CO2 Laser treatment is to apply the cicatrization ointment prescribed by Dr. Szerman. It is critical to apply this ointment several times per day for the first 48 hours following the CO2 laser treatment. This ointment will keep your skin moisturized during the first 48 hours. Another cicatrization ointment is prescribed for use on the third day following the CO2 laser session as part of the post-treatment protocol.
Although the effect on collagen does not occur immediately after the session, it is common to experience all the treatment’s benefits.

Typically, a patient needs 4 to 6 sessions spaced 30 days apart. But it’s important to note that results may be different for each patient.

Yes, the treatment is effective and well-regarded in dermatology circles. However, you should have a specialist diagnose and treat you. Sometimes, people may think they need treatment for saggy skin, but a specialist may recommend a filling treatment instead.
Filling treatments add volume to specific areas of the face, like the lips or wrinkles. On the other hand, fractional CO2 laser treatment is appropriate for sagging skin in both older and younger people.
It is critical to consult with a specialist who can recommend the best treatment for your specific issue. This way, you can find the best solution to your problem.
Finally, receiving proper treatment from a specialist is crucial for achieving skin integrity.

The cost of the sessions will vary depending on the specific area being treated, the type of device used, and the location of the procedure.

In order to determine the optimal procedure for your case, it is necessary to conduct preliminary research. Conducting research, comparing, and comprehending the distinctions between different types of treatments is the most effective method to guarantee a safe and successful outcome for the desired procedure.

Besides, it is crucial to understand the primary differences between the types and brands of lasers available on the market. Making the right choices is fundamental for safety and achieving the best treatment results.

For safe treatment, only board-certified medical professionals specializing in aesthetic medicine and/or members of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology and/or Laser should be consulted.
