Hello, I’m Dr. Szerman, and today we’re going to talk a bit about male and female facial harmonization.

First of all, I’d like to highlight three key pillars that we lose as we age. The first is skin quality.
When patients start saying things like “Doctor, my skin is losing its glow, I’m getting spots, I’ve lost skin quality,” this becomes very noticeable. The second pillar is firmness — patients begin to see sagging skin due to the natural loss of collagen over time.
And the third pillar is the loss of fat in the deeper layers of the face. Our face contains fat layers that add volume — both in the superficial and deep layers — and as this volume is lost, deeper wrinkles and folds appear. This is what we call facial melting.
The skin starts collapsing over the bone structure. Deep folds like the nasolabial lines and marionette lines become more visible, and patients notice hollow areas in the cheekbones — the malar region.
And that’s exactly what we’ll discuss today — male and female facial harmonization, which is essentially the use of hyaluronic acid fillers to restore the fat layers lost with age.
An important detail is that fat loss plays a major role in facial aging, but other factors contribute as well — such as ligament laxity. Our facial ligaments loosen over time, and this also causes the skin to sag.
How Does Male and Female Facial Harmonization Work?
At our clinic, we perform facial harmonization using hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that is now lab-synthesized with advanced technology and computer precision. It’s a sugar molecule found in various parts of our body, such as the skin, joints, and bones.
In the past, hyaluronic acid was extracted from animals, like the rooster comb, but today it is fully synthesized — making the procedure much safer for patients.
Side effects are rare with hyaluronic acid. Basically, the doctor uses a needle or cannula — a small, flexible tube — to inject the filler into the deep fat layers of the face, gradually restoring lost volume.
It’s essential to discuss your expectations with your doctor to avoid overfilling. The goal is always to achieve natural, smooth, and balanced results, respecting the unique structure of each face.
Each face has a different capacity for volume, so overcorrection should be avoided. Sometimes we see unnatural results because too much product is injected. That’s why proper planning with your doctor is so important.
How Is Facial Harmonization Done?
In our clinic, we perform the procedure in two or three stages, allowing patients to observe the results gradually and avoid surprises.
Because the filler is introduced using a needle or cannula, there may be some bruising, though it’s uncommon. After the session, we advise avoiding intense physical activity, sun exposure, and other specific precautions for at least a day.
We also recommend avoiding invasive dental procedures for at least two weeks before and after the treatment. It’s also important to note that permanent fillers should not be mixed with temporary fillers like hyaluronic acid.
How Long Does Facial Harmonization Last?

Hyaluronic acid is a temporary filler. Depending on the product’s density, it can last one to four years. Some patients have reported results lasting up to eight or nine years, as seen in MRIs, though this is less common.
However, it’s essential to understand that hyaluronic acid gradually dissolves, so touch-ups are needed to maintain the results.
During the session, we mark the patient’s face to determine where volume will be restored. You’ll see immediate results, which is exciting, but I always tell my patients that the best result appears after two to three months.
Why? Because the product settles into the face and hydrates the skin. Each molecule of hyaluronic acid binds to 100 molecules of water, so hydration enhances the result. It won’t double the volume, but you’ll notice a more natural and refined look over time.
Is Facial Harmonization Worth It?
When performed correctly, it’s a very safe procedure that delivers beautiful results, and most patients are very satisfied — especially when the goal is to restore the volume appropriate for their facial structure.
Facial harmonization, whether for men or women, enhances features, balances proportions, and highlights natural beauty. With minimally invasive techniques, it offers quick, personalized results. It’s worth considering for those seeking confidence and rejuvenation, as long as it’s done by qualified professionals with a good sense of aesthetics.
